About Journal of Astronomy and Space Sciences

The Journal of Astronomy and Space Sciences (JASS; J. Astron. Space Sci.) is the official publication of the Korean Space Science Society (KSSS), the most prestigious academic society in the fields of space science and space applications in Korea. JASS is an international journal devoted to the publication of fundamental and applied investigations in all aspects of spacerelated science and technology. It was launched in 1984 and is published quarterly. Each article published is assigned a unique DOI that serves to identify the article in the digital environment. JASS is an open access journal; consequently, the full texts of articles are free for all users to read and use. The papers published in JASS are accessible on the journal homepage (http://janss.kr), the DOAJ website, and the SAO/NASA ADS website. JASS has been indexed by KCI and SCOPUS since 2007 and 2012, respectively. Additionally, JASS was re-indexed by DOAJ and newly indexed in the ESCI (Emerging Sources Citation Index) by Clarivate Analytics in 2017. This journal is supported in part by a Grant-in-Aid for the publication of scientific research from the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies (KOFST).

Design and Verification of Spacecraft Pose Estimation Algorithm using Deep Learning

This study developed a real-time spacecraft pose estimation algorithm that combined a deep learning model and the least-squares method. Pose estimation in space is crucial for automatic rendezvous docking and inter-spacecraft communication. Owing to the difficulty in training deep learning models in space, we showed that actual experimental results could be predicted through software simulations on the ground. Nowadays, the trend in lunar exploration missions is shifting from prospecting lunar surface to utilizing in-situ resources and establishing sustainable bridgehead. In the past, experiments were mainly focused on rover maneuvers and equipment operations. But the current shift in trend requires more complex experiments that includes preparations for resource extraction, space construction and even space agriculture. It is known that Chang-Hwa Park (1889–1962) transcribed a chronicle of the Goguryeo kingdom (BC 37–AD 668) of Korea (hereafter Goguri annal) from literature of the time that is no longer available.
